PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) was developed to answer the many problems around caring for frail seniors. The PACE model is centered on the belief that it is better for the well-being of seniors with chronic care needs and their families to be served in their community whenever possible.

Seniors, their family members, and caregivers face many issues, including transportation to appointments, management of medications, coordination of medical care from different specialists, lack of social interaction, and ability to stay alone at home. On Lok PACE participants receive in home care services and transportation to a On Lok PACE center for primary medical care, social and recreational activities, and other senior care services.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Senior Medical Coding Specialist and supervision of the Administrative Services Manager, the Medical Coding Specialist will review documentation for On Lok Lifeways providers and identify and resolve any issues related to codes that do not conform to regulatory guidelines or On Lok Lifeway's internal controls.


DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Reviews and ensures accurate coding of encounters.
  2. Queries providers when documentation or coding is unclear.
  3. Provides information to IT Department regarding void/replace/deletion of codes for accurate data submission.
  4. Works directly with Senior Medical Coding Specialist to provide information and pattern and trends in coding a documentation for the development of provider education.
  5. Learns and becomes proficient with On Lok's Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.
  6. Active continuing coding education/membership/certification is required.
  7. All other reasonably related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS (knowledge, skills, abilities):

  1. Successful completion of a coding certificate program: Certificate Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC) from American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
  2. A minimum of 1 - 3 years coding experience required.
  3. Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
  4. Medicare experience preferred.
  5. Extensive knowledge of International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) coding guidelines.
  6. Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Hierarchical Coding Categories (CMS HCC) Risk Adjustment coding and data validation requirements.
  7. Advanced understanding of medical terminology, pharmacology, body systems/anatomy, physiology and concepts of disease processes.
  8. Demonstrated familiarity with utilization of EHR systems and their applications.
  9. Ability to manage significant workload and work efficiently with minimal supervision.
  10. Strong oral and written communication skills required for presentation of clear, concise results.
  11. Must have excellent phone etiquette.
  12. Proficient in Excel, Word and Power Point programs.
  13. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide variety of individuals at all levels within the organization.
  14. Ability to maintain and establish working relationships with physicians and support staff.

Your final compensation offer will be determined based on factors such as skills, experience, education, and licenses/certifications. The pay range is expressed as an hourly rate regardless of FLSA status. Exempt positions are paid salaried and are not subject to overtime.
